Dr. Chen is an internationally recognized cardiothoracic surgeon with more than 30 years of experience. He specializes in complex cardiac procedures and brings a wealth of expertise to one of the region’s most respected cardiovascular programs.
Dr. Chen joins a highly ranked team of heart specialists at Jefferson Abington Hospital, which is consistently recognized for clinical excellence, including certification as a Comprehensive Cardiac Center by the Joint Commission.
“I’m excited to bring more specialized expertise to the Abington community, not only for complex cases, but also for more routine procedures as well,” Dr. Chen says.
Dr. Chen also serves as Chief of Cardiac Surgery at Jefferson Abington Hospital and Professor of Surgery at Thomas Jefferson University’s Sidney Kimmel Medical College. He is internationally recognized for his expertise in reoperative thoracic aortic procedures, high-risk and complex adult cardiac surgery, and valvular heart surgery.

Dr. Chen’s expertise was recently on display when he performed a live valve-sparing aortic repair during a major international cardiovascular conference. Two hundred surgeons globally joined to watch the surgery and ask questions in real time.
