Fabscrap, a Brooklyn-based nonprofit for commercial textile recycling, has expanded to Philadelphia with a new location inside the Bok Building. The organization processes fabric waste from businesses and diverts it from landfill. There is also a fabric scrap shop where designers can go to find cheap materials. Volunteers are invited to assisting in processing and sorting fabrics in exchange for free scrap.

Temple University's new women's health hospital will open at 1331 East Wyoming Ave in the Juniata Park section of the city in late 2022, officials said. Temple acquired the property from the Cancer Treatment Centers of America and also plans to move its administrative services to the new campus.

Vials potentially containing the deadly smallpox virus were discovered at Merck lab outside Philadelphia on Tuesday, leading to a temporary lockdown of the facility. The FBI and the CDC have launched an investigation into the frozen vials. Smallpox has been eradicated since 1980, but was once of the deadliest diseases in the world. Only two research facilities are authorized to store the virus.

An increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the Philadelphia region has health officials concerned about another winter surge. Philly Health Commissioner Cheryl Bettigole said much of the new spread occurring is among children and teenagers who are not yet vaccinated.

A cat that went missing from Williamsport, Pennsylvania in early August was located more than three months later in Fort Plain, New York — a distance of more than 200 miles away. The Montgomery County SPCA in New York reunited Dex, a black cat, with his family last week and said the happy ending is a reminder that pet owners should get their animals microchipped.

The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board is holding a series of five lotteries for rare, limited-release whiskey bottles that will be available to state residents and licensees. The 425 bottles, which winners gain the right to purchase, include bourbon and rye whiskey from Kentucky's Buffalo Trace distillery. The deadline to enter the lotteries is Friday, Nov. 19 at 5 p.m.

A West Wildwood police officers has been charged with burglary and making terroristic threats in alleged incident on Nov. 14, Cape May County prosecutors said. Dylan Keenan-Hannum, 30, of Del Haven, was sent to the county jail after his arrest amid an ongoing investigation. Authorities say the incident happened in Lower Township.

Oldestone, a new steakhouse and jazz bar in Bucks County, has opened inside the nineteenth century Methodist church in New Hope that formerly served as Marsha Brown's. The restaurant features a menu of New American cuisine with creole dishes carried over from Marsha Brown's recipe collection.
