A baby gibbon is the newest animal at the Philadelphia Zoo

Eros, a baby white-handed gibbon, can be seen at the Philadelphia Zoo's PECO Primate Reserve exhibit. The ape was born March 14. His birth was part of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Species Survival Plan, a breeding program to maintain biodiversity and protect endangered species.

An effort to make Hershey's Kisses the Pennsylvania state candy is gaining traction – but not everyone is on board

Legislation that would designate the Hershey's Kiss as Pennsylvania's state candy passed the state House by a 130-71 vote on Tuesday, March 26. The bill evolved from a proposal a group of Council Rock School District students sent to state Rep. Tom Mehaffie four years ago. Opponents said it is unfair to choose Hershey's over other Pennsylvania chocolate manufacturers and noted Hershey's labor issues.

Shooting at SEPTA bus terminal in Frankford kills 1 man and injures another

A man was killed and another man was wounded during a double shooting at SEPTA's Arnott Transportation Center in Frankford on Monday night, according to Philadelphia police. The shooting occurred at the bus terminal near Griscom and Arnott Streets. No arrests have been made. It's the latest in a string of shootings on SEPTA buses or at bus stops.

Tammy Murphy, the wife of New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy, suspended her U.S. Senate campaign on Sunday. She was running to replace Robert Menendez, who faces federal corruption charges. The move leaves U.S. Rep. Andy Kim as the favorite to win the Democratic nomination. Menendez may run as an independent.

The Weitzman Museum, which celebrates Jewish American heritage, may join the Smithsonian

New legislation in Congress could lead to the Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History in Philadelphia becoming part of the Smithsonian Institution. A bipartisan act would create a commission to study the possibility of transferring the museum to the Smithsonian, which currently includes 21 museums. The Weitzman would remain in Philly.
