His whirlwind life is back again, or at least a small semblance of it. Jon Dorenbos is able to perform his magic in front of large audiences, traveling the country and pacing himself. The beloved 37-year-old former Eagles long snapper got a chance to see a portion of the Eagles’ dominating 38-7 NFC Championship victory over the Minnesota Vikings walking through an airport on Sunday.

PHILADELPHIA — He’s a little thin up top, and carries the jowly, paunchiness of a man approaching middle age, which he is. He’s a father of three young children living the suburban life, putting out the trash, changing diapers, and catching an occasional hockey game here and there. A week ago, this enigmatic team lost four of five. Now, as has happened numerous time this topsy-turvy season, the Flyers have shown signs that they could be a playoff team this year.

There was a time, really not that long ago, when the Flyers were consistent Stanley Cup contenders. It was a given throughout the National Hockey League that when you came to Philadelphia, you better brace yourself for a hard-knocks game and make sure to pack plenty of ice bags to sooth the bruises on the plane ride home.

Something had to be done. The Flyers looked disjointed against the lowly Buffalo Sabres Friday night, losing 4-2 to a team with the penultimate record in the NHL that had won only four previous times at home. Nothing seemed to work. There were back passes where there was no trailer. There were unforced turnovers with passes where there was no one there.
