Philly residents urged to stay indoors due to poor air quality caused by Canadian wildfires

Air quality levels in the Philadelphia region may reach "very dangerous" conditions due to smoke from the Canadian wildfires, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection warned Wednesday, June 7. A Code Red alert is in effect, and residents are advised to stay indoors and wear N95 masks when outside. The city is calling for outdoor events to be postponed, but the Phillies game is still scheduled to begin at 6:05 p.m.

Red flag warning, indicating elevated risk of fires, issued for Philly region as weather stays dry

The National Weather Service issued a red flag warning for much of New Jersey and southeastern Pennsylvania, including Philadelphia, on Tuesday. Dry plants, low humidity, breezy winds and a chance of dry thunderstorms are increasing the risk of new fires. Haze from Canadian wildfires has also worsened air pollution; DEP announced a code orange alert.
