Delco man rescued after getting stranded in tree surrounded by flooded Marcus Hook Creek

Delaware County first responders rescued a man from a tree in Upper Chichester during Tuesday night's rainstorm. They shared video of the daring rescue of the man, who was stranded after being surrounded by floodwaters. The county received nearly 2,000 emergency calls on Tuesday night, including 27 for water rescues.

Two Cherry Hill Target shoppers who say they were injured by children riding scooters in store file lawsuit

Two Target shoppers in New Jersey have sued the company over injuries they allegedly suffered when a group of kids rode the company's electric shopping scooters into them at a store in Cherry Hill. The women claim the December 2021 incident left them with lasting injuries. Target has denied responsibility.

Hearing aids may help people live longer, but many who need them don't get treated

Hearing aids can reduce the risk of death by as much as 25% in people who suffer from hearing loss, according to a new study. The devices may help prevent depression and dementia while improving overall health and quality of life. About 40 million American adults have some degree of hearing loss, which can impair the way people socialize and respond to events happening around them. Despite the prevalence of hearing loss in the United States, only about one in 10 people affected by it get hearing aids.

SEPTA altering multiple bus routes due to I-95 cap project at Penn's Landing

SEPTA will make changes to eight bus routes — 5, 12, 17, 21, 33, 38, 42 and 44 — beginning Sunday, Jan. 14 due to PennDOT's work on the I-95 cap project taking shape at Penn's Landing. The Chestnut Street bridge will be closed the next day for its planned demolition.

Macy's sued by security guard's family after fatal stabbing at Center City store

A civil lawsuit has been announced against Macy's by the family of Eric Harrison, the security guard who was fatally stabbed at the Center City department store in December. Harrison, 27, was killed by a shoplifter who attacked him and another guard, police said. The lawsuit alleges Macy's and other entities connected to the building failed to take measures to prevent the stabbing.

Norristown mom who crashed her van into SEPTA bus, killing her infant, charged with homicide

Arbetina Johnson-Lowery who crashed her minivan into a stopped SEPTA bus last September, causing fatal injuries to her 1-year-old son, has been charged with homicide by vehicle, driving under the influence and related offenses, Montgomery County prosecutors said. The Sept. 30 crash happened on East Johnson Highway near Old Arch Road.

Bastia — a Mediterranean café coming to Fishtown in March — is a 'must-visit' in 2024, according to Bon Appétit

Bon Appétit named Bastia, a Mediterranean café expected to open in Philadelphia in March, one of its 'must-visit' restaurants in the United States in 2024. Led by the acclaimed Chef Tyler Akin, Bastia will be part of the new boutique hotel Anna & Bel in a residential part of Fishtown. The menu will focus on seafood and vegetable dishes.

458-acre Girl Scout camp in Montgomery County to be permanently preserved

Camp Laughing Waters, a 458-acre tract of woods that covers parts of New Hanover and Upper Fredrick townships, will be permanently protected from development in Montgomery County thanks to a new conservation easement. The easement allows the Girls Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania to continue using the grounds as a campground and also calls for the addition of a 2-mile county trail.

New Jersey will allow some 17-year-olds to vote in primary elections

New Jersey will allow 17-year-olds to vote in primary elections beginning in 2026. The law signed Thursday by Gov. Phil Murphy says 17-year-olds can vote in primaries so long as they turn 18 by the date of the following general election. New Jersey joins 19 other states that have passed similar laws.

Man struck and killed by SEPTA train during fight inside 34th Street Station, police say

A man was was struck and killed by a Market-Frankford Line train during an altercation Thursday afternoon on the platform at 34th Street Station in University City, authorities said. During the fight, a man fell onto the subway tracks and was hit by a train. He has not been identified and the other man has not been found, police said.
