Former Phillies manager Joe Girardi, who was fired by the team in June, will become a member of the Chicago Cubs broadcasting team with Marquee Sports Network. Girardi, an Illinois native, was drafted by the Cubs in 1986 out of Northwestern University and played sevens seasons with the team during two separate stints.

Scott Overland, a Phoenixville man vacationing with his family in Rehoboth Beach, found a rare purple pearl in a clam appetizer at Salt Air Kitchen & Bar. The upscale restaurant at the Delaware shore destination said the pearl came from a Quahog clam, which produces natural, non-nacreous pearls that can be highly valuable due to their rarity. Overland and his wife plan to have the pearl appraised.

A 3-year-old girl was hospitalized in Pittsburgh on Sunday after a chef at a Hibachi steakhouse in Allegheny County accidentally squirted alcohol into the toddler's mouth. The girl's mother, Ashley Cain, said the incident happened when the chef mixed up two bottles, one containing sake and the other pink lemonade. The restaurant has taken ownership of the incident and suspended the chef responsible for the mistake.

Pennsylvania's historic Ship Inn, a Georgian property built in 1796 in the Exton section of West Whiteland Township, Chester County, reportedly will be sold to new owners who plan to turn the two-story property into a microbrewery. The stone building originally served as an inn and restaurant for travelers on the Lancaster Turnpike, which expanded commerce between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. The building has survived as a restaurant under various owners for most of its existence.

Miles Teller, who stars alongside Tom Cruise in "Top Gun: Maverick," visited the Jersey Shore over the weekend and took a photo with staff at The Ugly Mug tavern in Cape May's Washington Street Mall. Teller, 35, is a native of Downingtown, Chester County and spent parts of his childhood in Pennsylvania and Delaware before moving to Florida. He's starred in a number of action and military movies over the last decade, including "Divergent," "War Dogs" and "Thank Your for Your Service."

Philadelphia City Councilmember Allan Domb resigned from office Monday as he considers running for mayor in 2023. Domb was serving his second term in one of City Council's seven at-large seats. A spokesperson for Domb said Monday that he will spend his time listening to Philadelphians and developing practical solutions to the problems and challenges the city is facing.

Actress Amber Heard has hired attorneys David L. Axelrod and Jay Ward Brown, of Ballard Spahr in Philadelphia, to represent her in her appeal of the Virginia defamation case involving ex-husband and actor Johnny Depp. In June, a civil jury awarded Depp $10.4 million in compensatory and punitive damages stemming from Heard's allegations of domestic abuse during her marriage to Depp. Heard also was awarded $2 million in compensatory damages on one of her counterclaims.

A golf cart driver was killed Saturday night in a collision with a car at the Loch Nairn Golf Club in Chester County. The man, who was not identified, was ejected from the golf cart and died at the scene near Church and McCue roads.

Sea Isle City is implementing a ban on shark fishing from its shoreline, Mayor Leonard Desiderio announced this week. The decision comes after a recent uptick in anglers targeting sharks from the beaches, creating fear that more dangerous species will come closer to shore. The new rules prohibit shark fishing in, on or near the beaches — and within 600 feet of the shoreline. The use of drones to spot sharks and other practices to lure them also are prohibited.
