Phillies' first jersey patch sponsor will be Independence Blue Cross

The Philadelphia Phillies have agreed to a jersey patch sponsorship with health insurance company Independence Blue Cross. The team will start wearing the patches on their sleeves Wednesday night at home against the New York Yankees. With the deal, the Phillies are now the 22nd MLB team to get a jersey patch sponsor since MLB introduced uniform advertising in 2023.

Ohio brewery sues Pennsylvania over 'protectionist' rules that limit beer sales

Urban Artifact, a Cincinnati-based brewery, has filed a federal lawsuit against Pennsylvania claiming the state has discriminatory rules that restrict beer sales to consumers from out of state. The company's suit contends the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board uses protectionist policies that favor in-state breweries and place unfair burdens on beer makers that want to sell directly to consumers in other states.

Ex-New Jersey trooper pleads guilty to punching handcuffed woman in police car

Former New Jersey state trooper Nicholas Hogan, 28, pleaded guilty to striking a woman who was handcuffed in the back of a squad car during a stop in Upper Deerfield, Cumberland County in September 2022. Hogan leaned into the car and punched the woman with a flashlight in his hand after she spit in his direction, investigators said.

Moorlyn Square Theatre, Ocean City's century-old cinema, reopens on the boardwalk

Movies are back on the Ocean City boardwalk with the reopening of the Moorlyn Square Theatre, a century-old venue that last had showings in 2018. The property across from the Music Pier was purchased two years ago by Town Square Entertainment, which operates five theaters in South Jersey.

The property shuttered in 2022 when the nonprofit ceased operations at its locations in Kensington and West Philly, leaving questions about the future of both properties.

SEPTA reveals design of new Market-Frankford Line subway cars

SEPTA has awarded a $724.3 million contract to Hitachi Rail for 200 new railcars for the Market-Frankford subway line. The new fleet is expected to be delivered by the end of 2031, with the first of the railcars arriving in 2029. The subway cars will have capacity for more passengers, digital signage and longitudinal seating.

Jamison Bachman, the serial squatter who tormented roommates up and down the East Coast, will be the subject of a new movie based on the story of a Chestnut Hill woman who sublet a room to him in 2017. The woman's story in Philadelphia was featured in an episode of the Netflix series 'Worst Roommate Ever.'

Driver who fatally struck cyclist Barbara Friedes allegedly was drunk, speeding

Michael Vahey, 68, has been charged with vehicular homicide and driving under the influence of alcohol for the July 17 crash that killed 30-year-old CHOP doctor Barbara Friedes on her bike near Rittenhouse Square. Vahey allegedly was speeding and had a blood-alcohol concentration twice the legal limit, prosecutors said.

Fuel issue at Bucks County Wawa possibly linked to cars breaking down

Fuel from a gas pump at the Wawa in Richboro, Bucks County, has been linked to multiple cars breaking down since drivers filled up their tanks there last week. The issue has prompted an investigation by the Bucks County Consumer Protection office. Wawa could be on the hook to pay for expensive repairs from claims submitted to its Fuel Quality Guarantee program.
