Penn State Abington to construct its first new academic building in more than 50 years

Penn State University plans to construct a new academic building at its Abington campus. The three-story building would be the first new academic facility built there since 1973. Construction on the $68 million project is expected to begin in August. It will include classrooms, laboratories, workspaces for career development, art studios and faculty offices.

Two men plead guilty to roles in fatal beating of soccer fan outside Pat's King of Steaks

Nearly three years after a man was beaten to death outside Pat's King of Steaks, two men involved in the brawl have pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and aggravated assault charges. The fight at the South Philly shop happened after a soccer match at Subaru Park in Chester, resulting in the death of 28-year-old Isidro Cortez. Omar Arce, 35, and Jose Flores Huertas, 36, were sentenced to 11 1/2 to 23 months in prison and became eligible for parole for time served since the attack.

Baseball Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson's childhood home in Montgomery County to be demolished

A two-story Wyncote home where MLB legend Reggie Jackson grew up will be demolished to make way for a proposed parking lot. The Cheltenham Board of Commissioners granted conditional approval for the building to be torn down. It once doubled as a tailor shop owned by Jackson's father.

Rob Ellis to replace Glen Macnow on SportsRadio 94WIP's Saturday morning show

Rob Ellis will take the place of retired SportsRadio 94WIP host Glen Macnow on the station's Saturday show from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., joining Philadelphia Inquirer columnist Mike Sielski. Macnow retired after 31 years with the station. Sielski joined the show in 2022 after the retirement of longtime co-host Ray Didinger.

Norwegian Cruise Line will make Philly a home port for one of its ships in 2026

Philadelphia will be a home port of Norwegian Cruise Line starting in 2026, reviving a tourism industry that largely disappeared from the city's cargo hub more than a decade ago. Norwegian Jewel, a cruise ship that carries 2,330 passengers, will make 24 calls to Philadelphia for summer voyages to Bermuda and and fall trips to the North Atlantic coast in New England and Canada.

Tolls will rise to $6 on Ben Franklin, Walt Whitman and other DRPA bridges in September

The Delaware River Port Authority will increase tolls from $5 to $6 on the Benjamin Franklin, Walt Whitman, Betsy Ross and Commodore Barry bridges beginning Sept. 1. The toll hike is the first to be approved on the bridges between Philadelphia and New Jersey since 2011.

Man who fatally shot Temple student Sam Collington sentenced to decades in prison

Latif Williams, 19, was sentenced to spend 25 to 50 years in state prison for the fatal shooting of Sam Collington, a senior at Temple University who was killed during an attempted carjacking near campus in November 2021. Williams, who was 17 at the time of the shooting, was found guilty of third-degree murder in February.

Atlantic City to rebuild century-old Baltic Avenue Canal to combat flooding

Work has begun on a $22 million project to rebuild the Baltic Avenue Canal in Atlantic City, which is among the nation's most vulnerable coastal cities for flooding. The 1.8-mile underground canal was constructed in 1912 to manage stormwater runoff, but it has largely been defunct since the 1960s.

The attempted assassination of former Donald Trump in Pennsylvania prompted reactions and conspiracy theories on social media in the hours after the shooting on Saturday. Some of those remarks have cost people their jobs. Three Delaware County officials and a leader in Atlantic County, New Jersey have been fired or resigned as a results of comments they posted online.
