Philly airport had 30.9 million flyers in 2024, more than any year since the pandemic

Approximately 30.9 million people flew in and out of the Philadelphia International Airport in 2024, its highest number of flyers since 2019. The roughly 10% increase in the airport's travelers from 2023 was largely because of a rise in domestic flights.

Inclement weather further delays SS United States departure to Wednesday

The removal of the historic SS United States from South Philadelphia was further delayed until Wednesday afternoon due to continued high winds. The vessel is heading to Mobile, Alabama, where it will be cleaned and prepped to be sunk off the coast of Florida and turned into an artificial reef.

Market Street block to be named for pioneering Black banker Emma Chappell

The 700 block of Market Street in Philadelphia also will be known as Emma Chappell Way to honor Emma Chappell, the first Black woman to establish a bank in Philadelphia. Chappell, who died at 80 in 2021, also was the treasurer for Jesse Jackson's presidential campaign in 1984.
