The Pennsylvania Supreme Court that ruled that "naked ballots," or those without a second "secrecy envelope," will be thrown away and not counted in the 2020 election. Philadelphia City Commissioner Lisa Deeley warned in a letter to state lawmakers that this could result in as many as 100,000 votes being tossed if the requirement isn't removed.

Philadelphia will repave and improve Washington Avenue from Fourth Street to Grays Ferry Avenue in 2021. A plan selected after extensive public feedback will switch from five traffic lanes to three, adding more protection for cyclists. The city expects to begin the project next summer.

Researchers in Philadelphia have found promising results in efforts to treat spinal cord injuries by activating metabolic pathways in glial cells to promote axon regeneration. A new study published in Cell Metabolism was led by scientists at Temple University and the University of Pennsylvania.
