Man charged with knife attack on 14-year-old girl at Willow Grove Park Mall

Angel Ortiz, 23, was arrested Wednesday and charged with assaulting a 14-year-old girl with a knife at the Willow Grove Park Mall. The girl suffered multiple lacerations, but survived her injuries.

New arena for Sixers, Flyers to be constructed at former Spectrum site

Comcast Spectacor, which owns the Flyers, and the 76ers plan to construct their new arena at the site of the former Spectrum near Broad Street and Pattison Avenue. The arena will be a centerpiece of long-term development plans at the Sports Complex.

At redesigned Thomas Paine Plaza, skateboarders' new space keeps their last domino from falling

Thomas Paine Plaze in Center City reopens Friday after an $18 million renovation kept the area closed to the public for three years. The redesigned space includes an area for skateboarders built using materials salvaged from the original layouts of LOVE Park, Dilworth Plaza and Paine Plaza. The three plazas were among Philly's most iconic skate spots before they were renovated over the past 15 years.

State awards $2.3 million grant to restore West Fairmount Park's 19th century fountain

A $2.3 million state grant will support the Fairmount Park Conservancy's project to restore the John Welsh Memorial fountain in Parkside, across from the Please Touch Museum. The fountain, built in 1887, has not flowed with water for decades.

Speed cameras activated on stretch of Route 13 in Northeast Philly

A stretch of U.S. Route 13 in Northeast Philadelphia now has automated speed cameras that will enforce the 25 mph speed limit. A 60-day warning period will end June 12, when violations will come with fines ranging from $100 to $150.

N.Y. man must repay $66,000 to Pa. Fine Wine & Good Spirits for using stolen credit cards to buy booze

Eugene Antwi, 26, of Brooklyn, New York, was sentenced to four to 23 months in prison and ordered to pay $66,000 in restitution to Pennsylvania Fine Wine & Good Spirits for buying liquor using stolen debit and credit cards.

Philly real estate agent sentenced to prison for $3.1 million fraud scheme

Center City real estate agent Jonathan Barach, 47, was sentenced to more than three years in prison for a $3.1 million fraud scheme that duped investors into financing non-existent projects. Barach spent the money on sports gambling and a variety of luxury items, prosecutors said.
