Philly approves plan to bring fans back to sports venues

Philadelphia sports fans will be permitted to return to Flyers and Sixers games at the Wells Fargo Center beginning on March 7. At each game, 3,100 spectators will be allowed. The change took place after Philadelphia aligned its guidelines with new occupancy limits set by Pennsylvania. Phillies fans also will be able to attend games at Citizens Bank Park when the season begins in April.

Three teens sought in brutal attack on Norristown pizza shop owner

Norristown police are searching for three teenagers accused of assaulting the owner of Mama Venezia's Pizzeria on Feb. 19, 2021. Arrest warrants have been issued for brothers Justin and Kevin Cassidy, of Aston, and Justin Croson, of Seven Valleys. All three suspects are 19 years old.

Pennsylvania raises COVID-19 venue capacity limits, paving way for Philly sports fans at games

Pennsylvania has raised occupancy limits to 15% for indoor events and 20% for outdoor events, raising the possibility of spectators soon returning to the Wells Fargo Center and Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia for Sixers, Flyers and Phillies games. The city must revise its own guidelines to match the state's in order for fan attendance to move forward.

FTC backs off objection to Jefferson-Einstein merger in North Philly

Jefferson Health and Albert Einstein Healthcare Network are on track to complete a merger of their systems in North Philadelphia, adding four Einstein hospitals to the Jefferson network. The Federal Trade Commission, which previously had sued to block the merger, will not appeal the case after it was dismissed late last year.

At least one bald eagle chick has hatched at Duke Farms in Somerset County, New Jersey, where a popular nest livestream has been stationed for 14 years. Two eggs remain in the nest and could hatch some time in the next week.

Developers hope to renovate a historic firehouse on North 4th Street in Olde Kensington that dates back to 1895. A proposal to preserve the structure and add apartments to the space is under review with the Philadelphia Historical Commission.

Relaxed COVID-19 restrictions may allow some Phillies fans to attend Opening Day

Philadelphia has lifted additional COVID-19 restrictions in response to falling case rates, including attendance at sporting events. Effective March 1, the changes are still too small to allow fans at Sixers and Flyers games, but should be sufficient to enable a limited number of Phillies fans to see the team at Citizens Bank Park in April.

Second man charged in connection with deadly shooting at Montgomery County bowling alley

Raymir Johnson, 20, of Lansdowne, was charged with aiding the escape of 17-year-old Jamel Barnwell after a fatal shooting at Our Town Alley in East Norriston on Feb. 20, 2021. The shooting resulted in the death of 29-year-old Frank Wade. Four other relatives of Wade were injured in the shooting, which occurred after an altercation, according to investigators.
