Northern Liberties project will spell end for funky alien, eagle and rooster murals

An apartment building is planned in Northern Liberties at the corner of 2nd and Poplar streets, where street artists have graced the southwest corner with memorable murals over the last decade. The project from Catalyst City Development and Southwood Properties calls for a five-story building with 63 apartments and ground-floor retail.

Woman found dead in Harleysville parking lot in suspected hit-and-run

Pennsylvania State Police in Montgomery County are investigating a suspected hit-and-run crash after a woman's body was found Monday morning in a Harleysville parking lot, authorities said. The body was found face down around 6:30 a.m. in a lot behind an apartment complex at 3920 Eastport Way.

Human Robot Brewing nears grand opening of Jenkintown brewpub

Human Robot Brewing is opening a second location on Old York Road in Jenkintown in March. The Philadelphia brewer opened its first space in Kensington in 2020 and quickly became popular for its eclectic mix of experimental brews. Food at the Jenkintown brewpub will come from Herman's at the Haus, a German beer hall-inspired concept that will include American pub fare.

Trailer for Adam Sandler's 'Hustle' is packed with Philly things; take our quiz to see how many you know

Netflix released the trailer for the upcoming feature film 'Hustle,' which stars Adam Sandler and was filmed at locations in the Philadelphia area including Center City, the Italian Market, Manayunk, Chester, Coatesville and Camden. Several Philly area locations are depicted in the trailer. The movie is set to premiere June 10 on the streaming giant.

Pennsylvania wildlife rescue shelter reveals identity of mystery canine

A mysterious canine that was taken into a western Pennsylvania animal rescue shelter, only to escape in an improbable fashion, is 100% coyote, a genetic test found. Initially, wildlife experts weren't sure whether the animal was a dog or a wild animal that could have been a mix of a dog and coyote.

12-year-old among three charged in Mayfair carjacking, deadly beating of 70-year-old man

Three people including a 12-year-boy are facing murder and related charges in the deadly beating of a 70-year-old man who was viciously attacked during a carjacking in Mayfair on Dec. 2, Philadelphia police said. The victim, Chung Yan Chin, died several weeks later.

Man shot at 17th and Chestnut streets in Center City, police say

One man was shot in Center City near 17th and Chestnut streets on Thursday afternoon, Philadelphia police said. The incident appears to have stemmed from a parking dispute between a delivery driver and another driver whose car was blocked. Investigators recovered a weapon at the scene, but no arrests were made. The shooting victim as taken to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

Woman from Philly hiking club dies in fall at dangerous Pennsylvania trail

Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the death of a 72-year-old woman who suffered a fatal fall at the Glen Onoko Falls trail in Carbon County on Sunday, Feb. 13. The victim traveled to the dangerous trail with the Philadelphia Korean Hiking Club. The scenic trail, located on state game lands, was permanently closed in 2019 due to a history of deadly falls and accidents requiring rescues.

Man fatally stabbed outside Wawa in South Philly, police say

A 50-year-old man was fatally stabbed Monday morning outside a Wawa store along the 1600 block of South Christopher Columbus Boulevard in South Philadelphia, according to police. The victim, who was found inside his vehicle in the parking lot, was taken to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and later pronounced dead. An investigation remains ongoing.
