Aliens invade Philly, Wildwood in comedy duo's short film 'Higher Grounds'
'Higher Grounds,' a new sci-fi short film about an alien invasion in Philadelphia, gives a comedic look at what might happen if extraterrestrials came to the world and people thought they were trying to help earth avoid a climate catastrophe. The film, which will be screened this weekend at the Lighthouse Film Festival on Long Beach Island in New Jersey, was co-written and produced by South Philly duo Joe Kramer and Christian Sarkis Graham. Great white shark nearly steals fisherman's catch at the Jersey Shore
A great white shark was caught on camera trying to steal a fish from the line of a fisherman who was on a charter boat in Point Pleasant, New Jersey earlier this week. Mike Cavallo captured the moment on his GoPro as the shark tried to eat the black sea bass off his hook. Cavallo shared the video on his YouTube channel M & K Outdoors, which has videos of his adventures with his daughter.June 7, 2023

The 76ers will present information on their proposed arena in Center City for the first time Wednesday night at a meeting of the Washington Square West Civic Association. The team's $1.3 billion, privately financed proposal calls for an 18,500-seat arena to replace a portion of the Fashion District Philadelphia mall on Market Street between 10th and 11th streets. 66-pound catfish caught in Lancaster County breaks Philly fisherman's state record
A Pennsylvania man set a state fishing record by catching a flathead catfish that weighed 66 pounds, 3 ounces. Michael Wherley, an angler from Franklin County, caught the fish May 14 on the Susquehanna River in Lancaster County near Conestoga. The fish was reeled in from a boat in the area of Lake Aldred. After it was weighed, the fish was released back into the river. The previous record was a 56-pound, 3-ounce flathead catfish caught in the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia in May 2020.June 6, 2023

Philly D.A. to investigate fatal police shooting of Interboro High School student at I-95 car meet
The Philadelphia District Attorney's Office is investigating the Pennsylvania State Police shooting of 18-year-old Anthony Allegrini Jr. on Interstate 95 on Sunday morning. Allegrini, of Glen Mills, allegedly struck two troopers with his car after authorities had responded to reports of cars drag racing and doing burnouts in the Penn's Landing area. Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner's office will lead an independent investigation into the shooting.June 5, 2023

Green Eggs Café is now open daily in Ocean City, New Jersey from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 901 Central Ave, the distinctive pink building that has long been the home of the Chatterbox restaurant. The owners of Green Eggs Café, the popular brunch spot with five locations in Philadelphia, purchased the property last year. The Green Eggs menu is known for its selection of skillets, Benedicts and decadent French toasts made with carrot cake, cookie dough, cinnamon bun and more. Nearly $15 million in counterfeit U.S. bills seized by customs officers in Philly last month
Nearly $15 million in counterfeit U.S. currency was seized in Philadelphia by Customs and Border Protection officers in May, authorities said. Four shipments were made containing fake bills of various denominations. The two most recent shipments were seized May 26 and each contained $1,804,800. The initial shipment on May 2 contained $2,962,880 in fake bills, followed by a second shipment seized on May 5 that had $7,795,680, officials said. The source of the fake bills is still under investigation and no arrests have been made.June 2, 2023
