Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small charged with telling daughter to lie about alleged abuse

Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small Sr. is accused of asking his teenage daughter to lie to investigators about the alleged abuse she suffered at the hands of both of her parents at the family's home last winter. Atlantic County prosecutors said Small, 50, told his daughter to make false statements to authorities days before he and his wife, LaQuetta, were indicted. The couple have pleaded not guilty to the charges. Small now faces an additional charge of witness tampering.

Vice President Kamala Harris gave a concession speech Wednesday afternoon after losing the presidential race to Donald Trump in a landslide election for Republicans. Harris said she congratulated Trump and pledged to engage in a peaceful transition of power but would not give up fighting for the issues that shaped her campaign. She urged Democrats to remain determined and politically engaged.

Judge dismisses Philly DA Larry Krasner's lawsuit challenging Elon Musk's $1 million giveaways

A judge ruled Monday that billionaire Elon Musk and America PAC can continue their $1 million giveaways, which had been challenged in state court by Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner. Musk's attorneys argued in court that the prize winners from America PAC's sweepstakes were not chosen randomly, but instead were picked to be spokespeople receiving salaries to promote campaign efforts on behalf of Donald Trump. Krasner had alleged the giveaways violate Pennsylvania's lottery regulations.

Haddon Heights referendum on alcohol sales could push dry town to allow liquor licenses

A referendum in Haddon Heights, Camden County, will let voters voice whether they think the dry town in New Jersey should allow liquor sales for the first time since it was founded in 1904. A vote of approval still would require the borough to pass an ordinance allowing liquor licenses to be issued. Haddon Heights is one of about 30 remaining dry towns in New Jersey.

NOAA investigates butchered remains of dolphin found on New Jersey beach

The butchered remains of a common dolphin were found on a beach in Allenhurst, New Jersey, on Oct. 30, according to the Marine Mammal Stranding Center in Brigantine. The carcass appeared to have been cut up with a sharp instrument. It is illegal to harass, hunt, capture, collect or kill dolphins. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is investigating the incident.

New Temple President John Fry lays out goals, including expanding in Center City

Jon Fry was officially introduced as Temple University's 15th president on Friday, sharing a message with the community about his overarching goals for the North Philadelphia campus and beyond. Fry said he hopes to expand Temple's academic corridor south on Broad Street into Center City in the future. The former Drexel University president also said that improving campus safety will be his top priority.

Wawa's standalone drive-thru store in Falls Township closed this week after nearly four years. The company began experimenting with dedicated drive-thru stores during the COVID-19 pandemic. Wawa still has two of these stores left in Allentown and Largo, Florida.

Wawa-branded tumblers recalled due to cuts caused by metal straws

Tumblers sold exclusively at Wawa stores in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, six other states and Washington, D.C. have been recalled because of cuts caused by their metal straws, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said. The 24-ounce tumblers were made in China by Illinois-based Halo, which will offer $15 Wawa gift cards or replacement silicone straws to people who own the tumblers.

Philly man charged with calling in bomb threat to Montgomery County Republican Committee office

A Philadelphia man has been charged with threatening to shoot a staffer at the Montgomery County Republican Committee office and blow up the office in Blue Bell, prosecutors said. Edward Cieri Jr., 39, is charged with threatening to place weapons of mass destruction, making terroristic threats and harassment.
