Padres fans win prize for most cringeworthy hype video ahead of playoff series with Phillies

The Philadelphia Phillies and San Diego Padres face off Tuesday night at Petco Park for Game 1 of the NLCS. Ahead of the game, a group of Padres fans made a hilariously bad song that they performed on "Good Morning San Diego." The Phillies and Padres faced improbable playoff odds, but now each have a chance to punch a ticket to the World Series.

Yuengling will soon sell beer in three more states as expansion across U.S. continues

Yuengling is expanding its beer to Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma as part of its partnership with Molson Coors Beer Companies. With the latest expansion, the historic Pennsylvania-based brewery's footprint will soon be at 26 states. Yuengling's Traditional Lager, Light Lager, Golden Pilsner and Flight beers are expected to be available in the new states early in 2023.

Fourth suspect, a 15-year-old fugitive, identified in Roxborough High School shooting

Philadelphia police identified 15-year-old Troy Fletcher as the fourth of six suspects wanted in connection to the Sept. 27 shooting at Roxborough High School, which killed 14-year-old Nicholas Elizalde and injured four other teens. Authorities have arrested two suspects and have identified two others, while another two have not yet been named. The shooting happened after a high school football scrimmage and is believed to have been a targeted ambush on a 17-year-old boy who was injured in the attack.

Wawa to shut down two more Center City stores, citing safety and security

Wawa is closing its Center City store locations at 12th and Market streets and 19th and Market Streets, citing safety and security issues that have created operational challenges for the convenience store chain in Philadelphia. The decision comes after Wawa made national news when a viral video showed a large group of juveniles ransacking a store in Mayfair. The company has reduced store hours at many of its downtown locations and expressed hesitation about including Philadelphia in its expansion plans.

Eagles add two reverse vending machines to incentivize recycling at the Linc

The Philadelphia Eagles have added two reverse vending machines to Lincoln Financial Field, becoming the first NFL team to introduce the emerging technology. Located in the concourse outside sections 123 and 138, the machines can be used to dispose of cans, plastic bottles and plastic cups by scanning a QR code. A touchscreen prompts fans to complete a questionnaire and generates unique transaction codes that lets fans know if they won and how to redeem prizes, including complimentary offerings from fan services.

Acme Markets owner to be acquired by Kroger in $24.6 billion deal

Albertsons, the owner of Acme Markets and other grocery store chains, will be acquired by Kroger in a merger deal worth $24.6 billion, the two companies announced. The deal is expected to face antitrust scrutiny from the Federal Trade Commission. Albertsons owns banners including Safeway, Shaw's and Jewel Osco. Kroger's brands include Ralphs, Dillons and Harris Teeter.

Penn Medicine, Virtua Health's new proton therapy cancer treatment center will become first in South Jersey

Penn Medicine and Virtua Health expect to open their new $45 million proton therapy center in Voorhees in early 2023. The treatment facility will be the first site in South Jersey to offer the promising cancer treatment. Proton therapy is a relatively new type of radiation treatment that's used to treat cancers as well as some benign tumors. It's associated with fewer severe side effects than traditional radiation treatment.

Comedian Kevin Hart's father, Henry Witherspoon, died this week at 73 years old. Hart, who grew up in North Philadelphia, has been open in recent years about his father's battle with drug addiction during his childhood. Later in life, Hart was able to repair his relationship with his dad and help him get clean.

Son of former Eagles QB Bubby Brister charged in fatal hit-and-run

The 21-year-old son of former NFL quarterback "Bubby" Brister, who had stints with the Philadelphia Eagles and Pittsburgh Steelers, surrendered to authorities in Baton Rouge on Wednesday for his alleged role in a hit-and-run that killed a pedestrian on Sunday.

Ex-Burlington City High School track star, 25, fatally shot in Trenton, police say

Daveigh Brooks, a former track standout at Burlington City High School and Bloomfield College, was fatally shot Monday, Oct. 10 in Trenton, authorities said. Brooks was found in the driver's seat of a black Ford Fusion on Greeley Avenue after police heard gunfire. No arrests have been made and an investigation remains ongoing.
