PGW to demolish 212-foot tall tank that's visible from I-95
Philadelphia Gas Works is demolishing the cage-like gasometer structure at its Liquefied Natural Gas Processing Plant in Port Richmond. The 212-foot-tall structure, visible from I-95 along the Delaware River, was built in 1954 for natural gas storage and to control the pressure of natural gas in PGW's distribution mains. Gasometers were originally developed to control the pressure and storage of manufactured coal and water gas.August 17, 2023

Police identify officer who fatally shot 27-year-old in his car in Kensington
Philadelphia police identified Mark Dial as the police officer who fatally shot 27-year-old Eddie Irizarry in his car in Kensington on August 14. Investigators initially said Irizarry had gotten out of his car and lunged at police with a knife, but later changed their story after it was determined Dial fired into Irizarry's car, striking him in the driver's seat. Irizarry's family has demanded answers and called on police to release body camera footage from the shooting.August 16, 2023

Glenside's Keswick Tavern shut down, raided by state liquor enforcement
Glenside bar and restaurant the Keswick Tavern was raided by the Pennsylvania Bureau of Liquor Enforcement on Tuesday because it had been operating for months with an expired liquor license, officials said. All of the alcohol was seized from the bar in Abington Township, where the business opened in 1994 up the street from the Keswick Theatre. The bar must remain closed until its license is renewed with the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board.August 16, 2023

The New Jersey Department of Labor has temporarily closed 27 Boston Market restaurants amid an investigation into alleged labor violations, including unpaid back wages totaling more than $600,000 for 314 employees, officials said. Steam train built in 1838 to relocate from Franklin Institute to Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania
A steam-powered locomotive that was on display at Philadelphia's Franklin Institute for the last 90 years will be moved to the Pennsylvania Railroad Museum in Strasburg, Lancaster County. The 185-year-old Rocket was manufactured in England and imported for use on the Philadelphia & Reading Railway. The locomotive weighs 8 1/2 tons and measures 17 feet long.August 15, 2023
