Three former Sharon Hill cops plead guilty in fatal shooting of 8-year-old Fanta Bility

Three former Sharon Hill police officers pleaded guilty Thursday to charges of reckless endangerment in connection to the fatal shooting of 8-year-old Fanta Bility on Aug. 27, 2021. Bility was killed by police gunfire as she left an Academy Park High School football game at Knight Park, which she had attended with her family. Three others also were wounded in the shooting, which allegedly happened when the former officers opened fire in response to another nearby shooting. The former officers had manslaughter charges dismissed as part of the plea deal with the Delaware County District Attorney's Office.

Teen charged in fatal shooting on SEPTA's Broad Street Line, police say

A 21-year-old man was shot and killed Monday afternoon while riding a SEPTA Broad Street Line subway in the area of Fairmount Station in North Philadelphia, police said. Rashod Born, 16, has been charged with homicide and related offenses in the incident, which authorities said stemmed from an attempted robbery. Born also was shot in the arm during the struggle.

John Fetterman beats Mehmet Oz in fiery Pennsylvania race for U.S. Senate

Democrat John Fetterman is projected to defeat Republican Mehmet Oz in the U.S. Senate election in Pennsylvania, a race that could decide which party controls the Senate majority, the Associated Press reported. Fetterman overcame a rocky ending to his campaign after struggling in a TV debate, when the lingering symptoms of the stroke he suffered in May were on display for voters. Fetterman will take over the seat of retiring Republican Sen. Pat Toomey.

Electric go-kart track to open at shuttered Kmart in South Jersey

A new electric go-kart facility and entertainment center will open in the space of the former Kmart building in the Berlin Shopping Center at 328 S. White Horse Pike in Camden County, New Jersey. Monaco Indoor Karting plans a track that will include 24 high-speed karts and eight carts for kids, in addition to an arcade, rock-climbing and a ninja course.

Delaware woman claims 2 lottery prizes totaling $400,000 in one day

A 70-year-old woman from Newark, Delaware recently purchased two state lottery tickets, each worth six figures, that she was able to claim in the same day. The first ticket was a $100K Ultimate Cash Instant Game winner. After she claimed that prize at lottery headquarters, she bought a $300,000 winning SERIOUS MONEY ticket. The Delaware woman's rare fortune comes amid building suspense over a record-setting $1.9 million Powerball jackpot. The next drawing will happen at 11 p.m. Monday.

Man, 34, grazed by bullet in shooting at Wawa in Northeast Philly, police say

Philadelphia police are investigating a shooting Friday morning at the Wawa at 9101 Frankford Ave. in Torresdale, where a 34-year-old man suffered a graze wound to the stomach as he was leaving the store. The shooting appears to have stemmed from an argument, and the gunman fired from outside the store, investigators said. The incident came after Wawa closed two stores in Center City last month, citing safety concerns. The company also has cut hours at other locations in the city and in Bucks County.

Philly is turning to civil prosecution – and mobile cameras – to fight its illegal dumping problem

For the first time in an illegal dumping case, the Philadelphia Streets Department used civil prosecution to hold an offender accountable for an incident that occurred in North Philly in February. The incident resulted in a $10,700 fine that included the cost of clean-up. The case came after City Council strengthened laws around illegal dumping and the Streets Department expanded its camera surveillance program to aid its investigations.

Ex-SEPTA manager took cash payments from vendor for inside information, prosecutors say

Former SEPTA manager James Stevens, 69, and Robert Welsh, 59, owner of Spector Logistics, were indicted as part of an alleged bribery and extortion scheme. Stevens, the director of SEPTA's video evidence unit, accepted cash payments from Welsh in exchange for information that help Spector Logistics win valuable vendor contracts between 2014 and 2018, federal prosecutors said.

Howie Roseman reminds heckling Eagles fan about team's 'first f***ing Super Bowl'

Philadelphia Eagles General Manager Howie Roseman gave a traveling fan a piece of his mind when he spotted a sign in the crowd at NRG Stadium before Thursday night's game against the Houston Texans. The sign said Roseman was "forgiven" for his wide receiver draft busts, thanks to the A.J. Brown trade. "I'm f***ing forgiven for your first f***ing Super Bowl?" Roseman said to the an. "F*** you! Let's f***ing go! F*** you!" Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith also let the world know he doesn't care about his fantasy football stats.

Suspect captured after manhunt in woman's fatal Millville shooting

Edwin Ramos-Rosado, the Millville man wanted in connection with Wednesday's fatal shooting of 35-year-old Ramy Garcia, has been captured by authorities after a manhunt that lasted in Thursday morning, Cumberland County prosecutors said Garcia was found suffering from a gunshot wound in the 400 block of N. Fourth St. on Wednesday afternoon. Ramos-Rosado faces murder and related charges.
