Pa. state trooper cleared of animal cruelty charges for hitting runaway horse with patrol car

A Pennsylvania state trooper who repeatedly struck an escaped horse with his patrol car in Chester County will no longer face charges from the December 2021 incident, which ended with the animal being euthanized. The District Attorney's Office requested the animal cruelty charges against Cpl. Michael Perillo be dropped.

Motorcyclist sentenced to 1-4 years in prison for smashing woman's windshield and assaulting her near City Hall

Cody Heron, 27, the motorcycle rider who was caught on video smashing a woman's windshield and pointing a gun at her in October, has been sentenced to 1-4 years in state prison after pleading guilty in February. Heron stomped through the rear windshield of a car idling near City Hall during an unauthorized meet-up of dirt bike and ATV riders.

City Council plans hearings to investigate UArts closure

Questions surrounding the closure of the University of the Arts have prompted City Councilmembers Mark Squilla and Isaiah Thomas to call for hearings and investigation into the school's sudden shut down. Thomas said an investigation would look into the relationship between the closure and the collective bargaining agreement that was reached with faculty and staff earlier this year.

Mail-in ballots opened too early could tilt close House race in N.J.'s 2nd District

In the Democratic primary for New Jersey's 2nd District, a judge's decision on whether to count 1,803 mail-in ballots that were opened too early could decide the race between Joseph Salerno and Tim Alexander. Salerno leads by 401 votes. The winner will face Republican Rep. Jeff Van Drew in the November.

In N.J.'s 3rd District, Herb Conaway wins Democratic primary; Rajesh Mohan gets GOP nod

In Tuesday's primary election for New Jersey's 3rd District of the U.S. House, Herb Conaway won among the five Democrats on the ballot. Rajesh Mohan was the winner among four Republicans who ran in the GOP primary The district is wide open with incumbent Democrat Andy Kim running for U.S. Senate. The 3rd District covers nearly all of Burlington County and parts of Mercer and Monmouth counties.

In Tuesday's primary election for New Jersey's 1st District of the U.S. House, Theodore Liddell won the Republican race by defeating Claire Gustafson and Damon Galdo. Liddell will run against incumbent Rep. Donald Norcross, a Democrat, in November.

The Democratic primary in New Jersey's 2nd District of the U.S. House remained too close to call early Wednesday with Joseph Salerno leading Tim Alexander by less than 2% with 93% of votes counted. The winner will run against Rep. Jeff Van Drew, the incumbent Republican, in the November general election.

Possible measles exposure reported at Philly airport

A person with measles was at Philadelphia International Airport on Friday, May 31, city health officials said. The traveler was in the federal inspection area of Terminal A West between 2:50 p.m. and 6 p.m. Friday. People who are unvaccinated or not immune are urged to get immunized if they were possibly exposed.

Andy Kim wins Democratic primary for New Jersey's U.S. Senate seat

Democrat Andy Kim defeated Lawrence Hamm and Patricia Campos-Medina In Tuesday's primary election for U.S. Senate in New Jersey. Kim, the congressman in New Jersey's 3rd District, will face the winner of Tuesday's Republican primary in November. Incumbent Sen. Bob Menendez, a Democrat who's on trial for federal bribery charge, is not seeking his party's nomination.

Curtis Bashaw wins Republican primary for New Jersey's U.S. Senate seat

In Tuesday's primary election for the U.S. Senate in New Jersey, Curtis Bashaw won the GOP nomination and will face Democrat Andy Kim in November's election. Bashaw defeated Albert Harshaw, Christine Serrano Glassner and Justin Murphy. Incumbent U.S. Robert Menendez, a Democrat, is on trial in federal court for bribery and corruption charges. He plans to run for reelection as an independent.
